Today I ... I Started Another Quilt Project

Moda Love Charm Quilt
Although this pattern is several years old, it is new to me. While randomly Googling charm pack quilts I found this pattern. There is a pdf out there in various places. (I'm sorry I didn't save the link)
This pattern calls for 1 charm pack of 42, 5 inch squares and I just so happened to have this beautiful charm pack by Carina Gardner, So Ruby, by Riley Blake Designs

Another Red / White Quilt Project is underway!
This quilt will finish at 36 x 36 inches
Which for my purposes will be either a beautiful wall hanging or a beautiful table topper.

Me and Booker are both enjoying our sewing room today.
Pure Joy!!

Today I ... Received Goodies in the Mail

As you know, lately making Red/White quilts has become my obsession. Every quilt pattern I see, I instantly translate into red and white fabrics. So naturally when shopping for fabric - it is
Red fabrics and tone on tone White fabrics
The little stack above I purchase online ... on Clearance ... at
www.eQuilter.com
I love opening my mailbox to find goodies for me, especially fabric goodies.

This little stack of Red fabrics I purchased at, A Scarlet Thread Quilt shop, on my recent trip South to visit with my sister for her birthday.
My Red and White fabric stash is growing ...
One little stack at a time.

Today I ... Am Doing Quilt Math

There is a beautiful ... smelling delicious right now ... Pot Roast in there!
After filling my crock pot, it was time to sit down and do a little quilt math.
Math ... not being my strong suit by any stretch of the imagination, always leads to a bit of anxiety for me. I will be cutting fabric from the calculations I come up with ...
YIKES!!!!

I have the cute templates to trace for the glasses I will appliqué to my hedgehog quilt but I will be calculating the blocks and yardage for the borders.

Over the weekend I was able to get all of my hedgehogs pieced together. I'm excited to see how this one will come together. I think the borders will make a big difference.

Today I ... Skipped Along On My Red Brick Road Quilt

Red Brick Road
I posted about this quilt earlier in the month, I believe, giving all of the pattern details. You can find that post here.
The pattern is called Yellow Brick Road but since I'm currently obsessed with Red and White quilts and have a ton of red fabric scraps, my version is called Red Brick Road.
This evening I was able to spend a little time in my sewing room and added two more rounds.
My goal size for this quilt is 110 x 110 inches, currently this quilt is 75 x 75 inches.

Just looking at this quilt brings me joy! I just love it!
Seeing all the bits of red fabrics I have used on other quilt projects is just so rewarding to me.
These pictures do not do this quilt justice but I couldn't wait to share!

I still have plenty of red fabric scraps but need to sew and trim them into strips.
This quilt project is so much fun.
Enjoying the process!

Today I ... Gifted This Quilt to a Friend

Charm Pack Stash Buster Quilt
60 x 60 inches

This quilt was made with charm packs that I had in my fabric stash. Most of the charm packs that I have, were gifted to me.  This one is colorful and I really love the way that this quilt turned out.
It was fun the make and with the machine quilting by my machine quilter, Sharon - it has become a really beautiful quilt. I gifted this quilt to a very kind friend.
It has been so very nice gifting this quilt.

Today I ... Simply Remember A Few of My Favorite Things

My Red Work Quilt
72 x 82 inches

This quilt has been years in the making ... somewhat because of the task of hand embroidering all of the 5.5 inch quilt squares in the middle but mostly because the squares are representative of
me ... and some of my most favorite people and things.

I traced the etchings of my children's hand prints when my oldest son was 9 years old, my daughter was 4 years old, and my youngest son was 2 years old and
embroidered those etchings onto blocks.

I love sewing, blogging, kitties, coffee, and Planet Otis when I worked there.

I love family, home, God, my Momma, and Tennessee ...

My Red Work quilt sort of tells the story of me.
It's been a labor of love and I have enjoyed making this quilt. Very much!

I love the back of the quilt too!

Today I ... Took my Blinders Off and Slowed Down

Watts Bar Lake, Tennessee

Recently I have been considering how quickly time passes and have wondered to myself is this because I don't slow down to enjoy the small moments, achievements, even struggles? Do I just have my blinders on plowing ahead from one moment to the next just getting whatever is next on my list done? Over the weekend I worked on my theory a bit and I was pleasantly surprised. I had a few errands to run on Saturday morning and instead of rushing out the door and road raging up and down the streets. I ran my errands in no real order, I took my time, I stopped and spoke with folks, and I had lunch with my daughter. I went to the International Delicatessen and shopped for treats to take to Game Night at a friends house and I was home and happy long before I originally thought I would be. Giving me time to look at a new quilt pattern I've had my eye on before getting ready for Game Night.

As you know from my previous post, on Friday afternoon I picked up a beautiful Stack-O-Quilts from my longarm quilter ... in the past I would have rushed home and stayed up until all hours of the night getting all of those quilts bound ... and not enjoying the process very much at all. Well, not this time! I decided to take my time and chose the perfect store bought binding for each of those quilts on Saturday morning ... which is exactly what I did. It was glorious and added to the enjoyment of my quilting hobby and to my Saturday morning shopping fun. Saturday evening was spent at a friends house enjoying board and card games and friendship. We had wine and cheese and chocolates and laughter and conversation. It was just a wonderful leisurely day all of the way around.

Yesterday, even with the loss of an hour due to the time change I accomplished so many things ... all at a very meaningful and relaxed pace. Some house cleaning and laundry had to be done but instead of rushing around trying to get it all done before "a certain time" I enjoyed the tasks at hand and got far more accomplished than I had even intended. And, I still managed to get 2 of the 5 quilts bound, sat on my deck and enjoyed the sunshine, got all of my chores done, put on a pot of pinto beans for dinner this evening, and went out to a wonderful Mexican dinner with a friend.

My point in all of this is that I'm not so sure that time is what is going by so much faster but that we are going faster and faster, rushing to the NEXT thing. Instead of enjoying our days we rush to work, we rush to this appointment or this event, we rush to fill our calendars with things to do (usually over committing ourselves), then we rush home, go to bed, get up and REPEAT! In that way the minutes and hours do just fly by marked by stress ... or worse indifference.

I'm going to continue to work on this theory of mine and just relax and see where it takes me.

Today I ... Finished Piecing Hedgehog #3 and #4

I now have four of the cutest Gigantic Hedgehog quilt blocks!
 Hedgehog #3

And ...

Hedgehog #4

I couldn't be more pleased!

Once the 4 Hedgehogs are pieced together I am going to add a small border, working toward the final quilt top size of at least 80 x 86 inches. Once this quilt top is quilted I plan to bind it with red binding.  My "Ode to LuLou" quilt is coming together nicely.

Tomorrow evening I will be picking up several quilts that have been out for quilting.
And although I have a long weekend of binding quilts ahead of me, I so excited to get them back!

Today I ... Met Another Hedgehog

These Hedgehog blocks are considered Gigantic in the pattern by Elizabeth Hartman
pattern has instructions for a large block and for a Gigantic block.
For the quilt I am making I have chosen to make 4 gigantic size blocks, 34 x 37 inches. I have completed 2 and have started on the final 2 blocks.
These Hedgehogs are the cutest things ever!
I have decided to name this quilt, "Ode to LuLou"

*LuLou is my nickname ...

Today I ... Met a Hedgehog

Meet Hazel the Hedgehog!
34 x 37 inches
This is another pattern by Elizabeth Hartman, called Hazel Hedgehog II
I am continuing with my Red & White quilt obsession with this quilt. I have pulled the fabrics to make 3 more of these Hedgehogs - after adding a border the quilt should be roughly 80 x 80 inches, or at least that is my plan.

Red & White quilts are just stunning to me. I'm not exactly sure why but I love them! Thus my current obsession with them. Creatively speaking, quilting with just red and white fabrics has been incredibly freeing. Quilting has become more about the pattern than the fabric choice.

Just about every quilt pattern I see these days - I imagine as a Red & White quilt! I have a few more quilt patterns in my queue that I will be doing in Red & White fabrics.

I have currently began looking at ways to decorate my guest bedroom in Red & White, showcasing my ever growing Red & White quilt collection. Yes ... apparently this obsession grows!
hahaha!!!

My nephew procured this wonderful piece of furniture for me via an online yard sale site.
I LOVE IT!!!

Booker

My boy kitty loves this spot ... "his spot" ... in my sewing room, surveying his kingdom. We spend many wonderful and peaceful hours together in this place.

Today I ... Celebrate My Beautiful Mother

This morning my beautiful momma celebrates her 79th birthday!
79 years young and just as beautiful as ever.
I love you Momma!

Today I ... Put A Little Love in My Heart

This quilt pattern is by Elizabeth Hartman the pattern is called Pixel Heart, it is one of her earlier patterns and I have had it for years in my queue to make. The pattern calls for solid fabrics but I really wanted to use fabrics with a pattern but never found what I was looking for. I love patterns by Elizabeth Hartman, they are well written and easy to follow. I have acquired several of her patterns over the years.

Anyhow ....

... recently I found this charm pack by Shayla Wolf, Foundation B.O.M and quickly bought 4 of them, Elizabeth's pattern calls for 150, 5 inch squares.
I LOVE THESE FABRICS!
Not only are they bright beautiful colors but they have beautiful geometric designs.
Be still my heart ...

My Quilting Planets were aligned perfectly to finally make the Pixel Heart quilt of my dreams!
And, that is exactly what I did ...

I couldn't be happier with the results! I did make one modification to the pattern, I added the row above Row #1 listed on the pattern. The very top of the heart shape. By using the charm packs for my 5 inch color blocks the only cutting I had to do was the white strips. This quilt top went together in one "full" day in my sewing room. It rained all day on Sunday, so I was able to sew the day away while doing my laundry and binge watching Netflix and Hulu.
