Passionate Day 11 - My Red/White Quilts

My Red/White Quilts

Love by Moda
37 x 37

This quilt is made from a Charm Pack - but can be made from a Layer Cake or Mini Charm Pack
You can find the free pdf of this pattern HERE

This pattern is the perfect size for a baby quilt and there are so many possible fabric combinations that would go with just about any nursery theme decor.

This quilt measures at 37 x 37 inches because I added a border. I have been considering making four of these 37 x 37 inch blocks and making a larger 4 Patch quilt.

This pattern goes together quickly, because of the use of pre-cut fabrics, there is not a lot of cutting involved. I used Riley Blake Fabrics, So Ruby charm pack by Carina Gardner for this quilt.
I love this collection of red fabrics.

My passion ... obsession ... for these beautiful red/white quilts continues. The resulting contrast of the red and white fabrics is just stunning to me. So simple but fascinating all at the same time.

Passionate Day 10 - My Red/White Quilts

My Red/White Quilts

Hedgehogs
86 x 86

I enjoyed making this pattern - there are several pieces for each hedgehog block (a lot of cutting) but if you keep the pieces organized it is a lot of fun to make. I used index cards to keep track of my cut
pattern pieces. It is so much fun watching the hedgehogs emerge as each block is completed.

My sister is the proud owner of this quilt. She said the hedgehogs with glasses spoke to her!
hahaha!
Again, the beautiful machine quilting is in the Baptist Fan pattern.

Hedgehogs before the glasses and the border were added.

Elizabeth Hartman has so many beautiful patterns. I hope you will check out her pattern shop and give her patterns a try.

My Red/White Quilts

Red Brick Road
93 x 97

This quilt pattern is by Karen Griska and it is called;
Yellow Brick Road, A Modern String Quilt
from The Perpetual Quilter Vol. 33

Of course my version of this pattern is in Red & White

I had wanted to make this quilt for years and I'm so glad that I did.
This quilt is now on my bed and I love it.
This one is one of my favorites.

Passionate Day 8 - My Red/White Quilts

My Red/White Quilts

L - O - V - E
80 x 95

This quilt was a wedding gift for a beautiful couple who recently married.
Congratulations! Abbey and Bill
💖💖

As far as I know there is no pattern for this quilt. I saw a quilt like this online.
Maybe on Pinterest? Maybe on Etsy? Maybe on Google Images?
I can't really remember where or when I saw it but it stuck with me.
The letters are improv pieced but what makes this quilt for me is the machine quilting. I am fortunate and blessed to have a wonderful machine quilter here locally. Her quilting NEVER disappoints.
The machine quilting pattern is called a Baptist Fan and it stands out and makes this quilt a real beauty. Since I gifted this quilt - I have decided to make a second red/white L - O - V - E quilt. I'm still working on my design and as I mentioned yesterday ... Improvisational quilting is difficult for me, so my design has to equal my actual skill level! hahahaha!
What I create on paper often exceeds my actual skill level so more often than not I have to re-work my design ... hahahaha!!!

As you can see, I'm still loving red and white quilts.

Passionate Day 7 - My Red/White Quilts

My Red/White Quilts

Red/White Wonky Improv
69 x 78 inches

I love the idea of the modern improv quilt and technique of improvisational quilt making but I'm horrible at it! Google modern improv quilting and you will find so many amazing and talented textile artists and their creations. I can spend hours looking at them. I even have several improv quilting books, that I love to just thumb through. It is art - pure and simple - and I love it.
I find however that I am not that artistic and when it comes to quilting I tend to be more traditional.
Meaning = I need a pattern! hahahaha!
My Red/White Wonky Improv quilt is my attempt at improv and being artist, modern and progressive. When all I have really done is made half square triangles, 9 patch blocks, and random strip piecing and then sewn it all together. No real magic modern improv wizardry here!
hahahaha!!!
All of that being said, I still love this quilt and how it turned out. And, I think this quilt demonstrates the beauty of Red and White quilts.

Just red fabrics and white low volume fabrics.
Obviously, I'm totally fascinated by Red and White quilt making.

Passionate Day 6 - My Red/White Quilts

My Red/White Quilts

Red/White Tribute Star Quilt
60 x 60 inches

I've made several Tribute Star quilts. This is a free pattern by Denyse Schmidt
The pattern is well written and it is stunning, not matter the colors you choose to make it up in.
I've made three of these quilts, the red/white one that you see here. One in orange/white that I donated to the University of Tennessee Alumni as a fund raising silent auction item. And, one from shot cottons years and years ago given to a friend for their birthday.

I don't always have a person (to make for) or purpose (as a gift or donation) in mind when I am making a quilt but it sometimes - somehow happens that a quilt I make ends up going to someone who sees it and loves it.
💖😍💖
This quilt is on my daughter's couch.

Passionate Day 5 - My Red/White Quilts

My Red/White Quilts

My Red Work quilt is my favorite red and white quilt. This quilt was a labor of love. I traced and embroidered all of the blocks with things that mean something to me.

My Red Work Quilt
72 x 82 inches

You will find all of my children's hand-prints, with their age, when those hand prints were traced.

There is a home block, a block for my mom, a sewing machine, and many others.
"Just a few of my favorite things ..."

Needless to say this was a work in progress for many many years and it felt really good to finally finish this quilt this year. I didn't necessarily make this quilt to be an heirloom but this one will be passed down to my children and so on. Which makes me love this quilt even more.

Passionate Day 4 - My Red/White Quilts

My Red/White Quilts

I promise that I have made quilts as well as table toppers! HA

Red/White Table Topper
22.5 x 22.5 inches

This table topper is made with leftover blocks from my Red/White Tribute Star quilt.
In the last couple of years I have tried to make something out of the blocks or fabrics leftover
when making quilts. I suppose this is why I have more than a few
table toppers (runners). Recently I have also started making pillows from my left over
blocks.

The Red/White Quilts, Infinity Variety quilt book
that has inspired me to make all of these
Red/White projects is featured in this picture.

😍😍😍

Passionate Day 3 - My Red/White Quilts

My Red/White Quilts

Although this one is not a quilt, it made of leftover blocks from the very first red and white quilt that I made. My red and white quilt collections also consists of table toppers and pillows.

2 x 4 Red/White Table Topper (or table runner)

I use this table topper on my dining room table and it is perfect. Besides the natural useful function of quilts, I also use them to decorate my home.

**My photos do not do justice to the beauty and simplicity
of these quilts and quilted items.

Passionate Day 2 - My Red/White Quilts

Red / White Quilts

Yesterday, I mentioned that I was going to post my collection of Red/White Quilts.
In the past two years my collection has grown and with each new red/white quilt I finish I fall more in love with them. And, I'm not entirely sure why I love red/white quilts so much but it still remains
that I am passionate about them and making them.

I enjoy making her patterns, they are all very well written and I have made several of her patterns over the years.

*Please forgive my photos, I need to work on
becoming a better photographer.

Passionate Day 1 - My Red/White Quilts

Red / White Quilts by Lori (me) of Gibby Girl Design

Two years ago my son bought me a quilt book on red and white quilts.
Red &White Quilts
Infinity Variety
Presented b the American Folk Art Museum
by Elizabeth V. Warren
with
Maggi Gordon

I have A LOT of quiltings books ... A LOT ... but none that have inspired me as much as this one.
Every single quilt in this book is made of red and white fabrics, only red and white, and they are all stunning. Since receiving this book I have begun making my own red and white quilts.

I will be posting a series of posts regarding the Red and White quilts I have made since receiving this beautiful book.
My Red / White Quilt Collection.

My first Red / White quilt

Red / White 2 x 4 Quilt

This pattern is easy and the results are beautiful. I ended up with enough blocks to make a table runner as well. This quilt project was completed May 2018 and since then I have made several red / white quilts and pillows.  With several more red / white quilt projects in the queue to be made.
