A New Morning Routine and a Red/White Quilt

A New Morning Routine and a Red/White Quilt

It is my goal to making my mornings more productive and there is not better place to begin than in my sewing room.

I love mornings, I love the quiet and peacefulness of mornings but instead of sitting about scrolling on my phone I have decided to begin each day with a task of some sort. Such as making a quilt block, composing a blog post, washing dishes, decluttering the top of my dining room table. Something that will fill me with a sense of accomplishment.

I decided to start with making quilt blocks from my box of red and white scrap fabrics.

I love scrap quilts ...

I love red/white quilts

I've been seeing this block quite a bit on social media ... I'm not sure what the pattern is called but I think it is stunning.

My first morning quilt block ... it's gonna be a good day!

Pattern Writing

 Pattern Writing

As of late I have been pondering the task of pattern writing. Not only would I like to write a quilt pattern but also patterns for the crocheted Easter Baskets that I make each year. Meaning the actual basket not necessarily the motifs I choose.

I've decided to write a pattern using the little red houses that I have been piecing.
As I will be constructing the quilt top as I go this one may take a while.
... you had to know that I my first attempt at pattern writing would be a red/white quilt

Quilt math ... I need to look into possible pattern writing software for my computer.

Handmade Christmas Gifts - 2023

 Handmade Christmas Gifts - 2023

My mom asked me to make some clothe napkins for her to gift to one of her friends.

My mom's friend is a Georgia fan ...

My sister is a Tennessee fan

I had enough University of Tennessee fabric to make 4 napkins for my sister

And, enough University of Georgia fabric to make the 6 napkins my mom requested.
I had a very productive Sunday morning this past weekend.

Bread

 Bread

I'm pretty determined to become a darn good bread maker ...

Proofing the dough ...

With the extra hour - due to the time change - I woke up early to bake my bread

The bread turned out beautiful and delicious!

WIN WIN!!!

Through The Years - Crocheted Easter Baskets

 Through The Years

2014 - 2023 Easter Baskets

I've been gathering ideas for the 2024 Easter Basket and as always I tend to look back at the Easter Baskets and themes I have already made. I decided to post them here.

1888 Singer Hand-Crank Sewing Machines

 1888 Singer Hand-Crank Sewing Machines

Earlier in the week I had the greatest pleasure of getting to see two of the most beautiful sewing machines. The detail ... they are amazing. I even had the pleasure of sewing a few lines of perfectly uniform stitches.

Every detail of these machines are an absolute MASTERPIECE!

My Happy Place

 My Happy Place

My sewing room is my happy place. It needs a bit of cleaning and organizing but stepping inside this room never fails to brighten my spirits.

I don't just sew in my sewing room. The fact of the matter is ... I probably have the supplies to do just about any crafty artistic thing you might want to do.
I have always loved to color in coloring books ... the smell of crayons brings back wonderful childhood memories.
My Grandma Dorothy worked at a place called Carter's Ink, they produced magic markers ... I love the smell of magic markers too!

Presently I'm making some clothe napkins for Christmas gifts.

When I was rooting around for the Georgia fabrics I ran across this Tennessee fabric ... I think I will make a little something out of this too.
I'm not sure what yet but pondering a few options ...

SOLD!

 SOLD!!

I don't really do commissioned quilt making anymore but occassionally someone will see one of my quilts and ask me if it is for sale.

That is exactly what happened with this quilt.

Halloween 2023

 Halloween 2023

My daughter (adult daughter) and I built our spooky little Halloween town, made chili and brownies, and just enjoyed our evening.

Trader Joe's for an evening of FUN!!
I hope this will become a new tradition!

My daughter's house is on the right and my house is on the left.

I had technical difficulties from the beginning ... the base for my spooky house was broken. I had to do a little repair work on the foundation before I could build my house.

My daughter's kit came with a Ghost ... mine didn't ...

We didn't have any Trick or Treaters but we had a great evening just being together.

Garden Window Update

Garden Window Update

I love my kitchen and my kitchen window garden.

My sister gave me this jade plant ... it was tiny ... now it is in two containers.
This container and the one below.

All of the plants love this window and seem to thrive not matter the time of year.

No matter the season, I love my little garden window.

As you can see ... the window garden is beginning to over flow a bit.

This garden planter has been purchased and it is my plan to begin doing a little gardening outside as well. It is my goal to one day have a proper little homestead of sorts right here in my very own backyard.
