English Paper Piecing - Hexagons

 English Paper Piecing

Hexagons

I've been working on this EPP Hexagon projects for sometime. This is all hand-stitching and I take out my little box of EPP hexagons and get to work.

I have no idea when this project will be completed or how large it will be, I'm just enjoying the process.

The blocks are KONA solids and fussy cut scraps.

Progress Report - Girl Power - English Paper Piecing

Progress Report - Girl Power - English Paper Piecing

I've only managed to piece a couple more of the hexie flowers but progress is progress.

😂😂😂

I'm enjoying so many things about this quilt project.
The theme ... Girl Power
The colorfulness
And, the opportunity to sit down, focus my mind, and just relax in the simple task of hand piecing.

This project is helping me to slow down enough to live in the moment.

Often a moment that I need to stop and consider my blessings.
Time to clear my mind of the stressful events of the day and/or the stressful events in our world.
A moment to catch my breath.
Needless to say, I'm not the least bit disappointed that this project will take a long time to complete.
I'm enjoying the process very much.

Design Wall 08/08/2024

 Design Wall

For many years I didn't have a design wall and looking back I wonder how I ever got anything accomplished. Back then any flat surface would do, table tops, the floor, or the top of the bed.

These days however I do have a design wall and I love it.

It is a place where I can play around with blocks and decide on just the right placement or design. For a quilting nerd like myself ... having a design wall provides hours and hours of entertainment! hahahaha!

There are many different elaborate and expensive design wall products out there on the market but mine is made of a queen size flannel sheet that I purchased at a yard sale years ago. I have it thumbtacked to the wall in my sewing room and it works beautifully for me.

Some blocks I found going through bags and boxes that I rescued from the storage unit that I cleaned out and the English Paper Piecing project that I am currently working on.

Some red/white half square triangles that I found and wonky star block that was in my Red/White box of curiosities.

Red/White 9 patch blocks that I made from scrap fabrics in my red/white box of curiosities. The lost and found blocks that have become SMS Quilt # 23 Half Square Triangles.
Girl Power the English Paper Piecing project that I am currently working on.

Girl Power - English Paper Piecing

 Girl Power

An English Paper Piecing (EPP) quilt project

2 inch hexagons make up the structure of this EPP quilt project

I am using fabrics with girl motifs and KONA solids charm packs.

I'm really enjoying this hand sewing project and I'm happy with the results so far.
This project will take a while to complete but the process is very enjoyable.
When I am working on something with my hands ... I'm not stuck dwelling on things in my mind.

Today I Am Getting Ready For A Week of Sewing

For the past couple of weekends I have been ramping up for my up coming "stay"cation.
If all goes as planned I will be spending a glorious week sewing.

These are a few of the projects that I plan to work on ...

"Girl Power" English Paper Piecing project

Red/White Cat Faces
This pattern is by Elizabeth Hartman

Strings in Solids
(Kona Solids)
I love all of the color in this one!

I love spending time in my sewing room. I love creating. I love making useful things.
Spending a week at home in my sewing room is my idea
of a wonderful vacation!

Stay Tuned!
I'm going to try and post my progress daily while on vacation.
Hopefully, that will help me kick start posting my progress here on a more
regular basis. It's been a bit difficult getting back into
the routine and dedication of blogging again.
But I am determined!

Today I ... Am Updating ...

On the weekend I took this project off of the design wall.
For a couple of reasons,
1. I'm still working out the sashing and design layout
and
2. I'm looking for more red fabric fat quarters, both solids and prints, variety is the spice of life

Added to my EPP project

I made a couple of pillows from orphaned red cross blocks.

And worked on these adorable Christmas Elves

My sewing room is absolutely my happy place! I'm not much of an outdoors person I suppose, but I'm especially not an outdoors person when it is hot outside.
As summer has just begun here in the states, I find that I am longing more and more for
the crisp evenings of fall. Cooler weather and shorter days.
Even though it is shaping up to be a hot hot hot summer, I am determined to
LIVE IN THE MOMENT AND ENJOY EVERY OUNCE OF IT
in or out of my sewing room!

:)

Happy Summer Everyone!

Today I ... EPP!

English Paper Piecing!
EPP

I'm always looking for a project that I can carry along with me. The reason I learned to knit years ago, was to be able to learn socking knitting so that I would always have a small project to take along with me. I still knit socks but I wanted to try something new.
New to me ... at any rate.
Years ago I realized that there were times when all I was doing was "waiting".
Waiting to be seen by this doctor or dentist. Waiting while the oil was being changed ...
countless times that I was waiting for my children to finish this or that
while I "waited" in the car.
Then there was soccer practice, baseball practice, dance class, dance team, and gymnastics ...
It was then that I decided having a small project to work on was just the ticket.
You would be surprised how much you can accomplish 15 minutes at a time.

I've been admiring English Paper Piecing projects for years and finally decided that it was time for me to consider making an EPP Hexie quilt.
The foundations for English Paper Piecing can be very small but I have chosen
2 inch Hexagon foundations for my project.
I've decided to fussy cut faces for my EPP project.
That being said ... it may take years to finish this project!

YIKES!!!

;)
