Adventures in Art - Watercolor Painting

 Adventures in Art

Watercolor Painting

In 2024 I took a watercolor painting class with my daughter. Since that time I have been reading up and watching YouTube videos in order to learn more about watercolor painting.

Above is an attempt of a desert photograph I found online. There are a few more details that I would like to add before I finish but I'm not unhappy with the results thus far.

Sketchbook - NeuroGraphic Art

 Sketchbook - NeuroGraphic Art

As most of you know, I have been trying for years to be consistent with creating in my sketchbook. As it turns out, once I stopped stressing over not sketching and what to sketch, I am sketching and creating more than I ever have.

I've also been reading and researching art techniques, art mediums, and art materials and supplies. It is amazing. Recently, I was reading about and watching a few YouTube videos on NeuroGraphic Art.

If you are interested in learning about neurographic art there are tons of sites and YouTube videos online. I'm not sharing any of those here with you because I went down the rabbit hole on this one from one site to the next to videos so I don't even remember all of the sites I landed on.

Below is my first attempt at NeuroGrapic Art

When I was a little girl my Grandma Dorothy worked at Carter's Ink, they made magic markers and my Grandma always had a large box of cast off markers. I used to sit in her living room floor and color art very much like this. Scribbling with a black marker and then filling in all of the little bubbles with every color of the rainbow.

Practice, Practice, Practice

 Practice, Practice, Practice

As of late I've been trying to sketch more. At one time I did quite a bit of drawing. When I was in elementary school coloring and drawing was my favorite thing to do. I regret that I didn't stick with it. So now I've been sketching and bit and really enjoying it. I've decided to practice sketching as often as possible, just for fun.

Pencil and colored pencils.

Sketching and Drawing

 Sketching and Drawing

A work friend was discussing beginning to draw and how much she was enjoying it. It made me realize how much I miss drawing, so I got my pencils and sketch books out this morning.

I can't wait to get started!

Life of a Quilter

 Life of a Quilter

Sometimes I have to laugh at myself. I am a quilter through and through. When I'm not in my sewing room working on a quilt project ... I'm thinking about being in my sewing room working on a quilt project. I adore the creative process of quilting and sewing. I enjoy every moment that I get to spend in my sewing room, shopping my favorite quilt pattern designers and fabric designers online, getting one of my projects back from the long-arm quilter ... all of it ... I adore all of it.

Time in my sewing room = threads on my clothes
It makes me smile!

I've completed 57 of the 81 blocks that I need for the Happy Camper Valerie quilt project that I started last weekend. I love these bright blocks. Beginning last year, I decided to start making quilt projects that interest me. Quilts that I want to keep in my personal quilt collections.
My Red/White Quilt Collection and My Sewing My Stash Scrap Quilt Collection
I have really enjoyed making quilts that tickle my fancy.

I've also gotten my sketchbook back out. This year, instead of making a yearly resolution I'm making a new year resolution each month. I want to begin drawing/sketching on a daily basis. So ramping up to February's resolution of drawing daily I've unearthed my sketchbook and pencils. I think I'm going to draw a different coffee cup every day.

I Think I Have A Problem ...

I think I have a problem ....

This past weekend I completed 5 quilts.
Sometimes once quilts come back to me from my long arm quilter,
they sit and sit until I get motivated to put the binding on them.
Which usually leads to a weekend devoted to doing just that,
... binding quilts.

All of this leads to the problem ... quilts ... lots and lots of quilts. Quilting is my joy, my creative outlet but, I (and all of my family members) have more quilts than we need or will ever really us. I should probably sell some of my quilts but I tried that. I had an Etsy page and after a year I only sold one quilt. Having an Etsy page (shop) costs money and it just wasn't worth the expense to keep it open. I also have a few of my quilts and things in a brick and mortar shop, with no real success there either. So ... I now have a closet full of completed quilts and quilt tops that still need to be quilted. I'm not sure what the answer is but I'm sure the problem is only going to get worse because I have no intention of giving up my quilting habit.

😁

Although, I won't be giving up quilting ... I've been considering other avenues of expressing my creativity. Such as watercolor painting, sketching, making my own clothing, luggage, and handbags ...
lots to think about!

Vacation Mode ... Art

I have been wanting to try my hand at watercolor.
I decided that there is no better time to
begin than while on vacation.
