Sewing My Stash Scrap Quilt # 11 and # 12

Sewing My Stash Scrap Quilts
# 11 and # 12

Sewing My Stash Scrap Quilt # 11
Jewel Tones
47 x 51 inches
This scrap quilt happened as a result of cleaning and organizing my sewing room a bit.
This happy little stack of jewel toned fabrics landed on the end of my cutting table just begging to become a lap size quilt.

Sewing My Stash Scrap Quilt # 12
Triangles
This quilt was supposed to be Sewing My Stash Scrap Quilt # 10 but once I had made all of the triangles I got stuck ... and had no idea how to complete the quilt.
Do I make more triangles? I would have had to buy coordinating fabrics if I wanted to make more triangles and that is just not the point of these scrap quilts. The point is to sew my stash NOT buy more fabrics, so ....

Using a solid gray fabric and the concept of negative space.

The triangles became Sewing My Stash Scrap Quilt # 12
60 x 70 inches (twin size)

Up next are two baby (girl) scrap quilts.
I think scrap quilts are truly my favorites. Little bit of this, a little bit of that ...
it's just pure magic to me.

Worm Dirt

Worm dirt .... did I mention that my brother grows worms ???

Well, he does ...

Here he is feeding them a few overly rip bananas and vegetable scraps.
Apparently they love coffee grounds, ground up egg shells, and cardboard.

They do not seem to like cabbage?
In the spring and summer they are housed in the barn.
In the winter they are housed in the garage.
And, what I mean by housed, they live ... in a large farm animal watering container ... I think?

Okay, these are the questions that I have ...
1. How does one decide to grow worms? I had no idea this was even a thing?
2. What is the purpose of growing your own worms?
3. What do you do with the worms? Set them free? And, if so where do you set them free and why?
4. Do you sell them? Fishing bait?

I'm pretty sure that I will just stick to growing vegetables and flowers and leave the worm growing stuff to my brother.

Gardening ... Satisfaction Guaranteed

Gardening ... Satisfaction is guaranteed!

I had a wonderful evening gardening with my brother.
I hadn't been out to the garden in over a week and until I stood at the edge of the garden looking in wonder at how everything had grown ... I didn't realize how much I had missed it.

The flowers we planted are coming along, the marigolds are actually blooming. The Zinnias have buds of future blooms.

I don't think that it will be to much longer before all of these flowers will have beautiful blooms on them.

We planted Zinnias, Cosmos (2 varieties), Tithonia, and Bells of Ireland

Last night we put the hay down between the rows of okra and beans.

Yellow squash blooms galore!

And, zucchini blooms too!

After we tied up the cucumbers and tomatoes and got all of the hay down, it was time to water the garden a bit.

Before I knew it ... it was 9:00 p.m. and time to head home.
Here are all of the cucumbers and onions that we picked.

I have so many pictures to share of our garden ...
I have pictures of our flowers, Sunflowers, lavender, tomatoes, peppers, and did you know my brother also grows worms!

Gardening is so satisfying. Growing your own food. Putting a seed into the ground and watching it grow. WOW!! Just WOW!

My Red/White Quilt Collection Is Growing

Red / White Quilt Collection

My collection of red/white quilts is growing.
Over the weekend I finished 3 red/white quilts.
Quilts that only needed binding to be complete.

Yesterday was a binding day ...

KMQG 2020 Chromatic QAL
64 x 76 inches

I had the best time making this quilt. I love the machine quilting pattern.
I love the eyeglasses on the front of the quilt
and the sunglasses on the back of the quilt.
I used fabric leftover from the backing to make the binding.

Moda LOVE Layer Cake Pattern
72 x 72 inches

I love this pattern. I absolutely adore the quilting pattern.
And store bought binding worked beautifully.

Shadows of Childhood
51 x 64 inches

I love everything about this little quilt. I had a panel with the children shadow prints on it. I cut the panel up and used the children prints for the center of my Courthouse Steps blocks.
I love how this one turned out.

Along with My Redwork quilt that I finished last year (the quilt on the bottom), the 3 quilts I finished yesterday make a cheery little stack of red/white quilts.

My collection continues to grow!

We Are Family

We Are Family

I've enjoyed a very nice weekend.
Early Sunday morning my brother sent me some update photos of our garden.

As it turns out ... I have a green thumb too!
Look at these cucumbers!!!

My brother reminded me that I planted these cucumber plants.
Look at all of the cucumbers and all of the blooms!

I'm thankful that my brother has been so willing to teach me about gardening and letting me garden with him in his garden.

On Saturday I pieced the Saucy Senorita quilt blocks. I started this quilt years and years and years ago. Once I made the blocks I had no idea what to do with them. I couldn't figure out how to set the blocks that I had made. I have carried this quilt project around with me for years. I believe that my daughter was in elementary school when I started this quilt. And, she turned 28 years old this year! This quilt project is long past due completing.
With my sister's help via text message, she helped me figure out the placement of the 15 blocks that I had. We have also decided on borders that I hope to get pieced very soon.

My Sister

And, she is going to help me hand-quilt this quilt.
Our first joint quilt project! I'm so excited!
Now that she is retired ... there may be more joint quilt projects in our future.

I'm thankful that my sister has always been my biggest fan and always willing to join in the fun!

I am a lucky girl!

HEARTS - Update

HEARTS!!

Hearts and more hearts

Scrappy and happy hearts ...

140 HEARTS

As I have been making these hearts, I realized that I need to keep the heart units small.
I decided that 5 heart blocks per unit will be best.

With the smaller units there will be better variety in each row.
I'm making these heart blocks from my stash.
As I unearth fabrics I make a few hearts with my findings.

I want there to be a lot of variety and random placement of all of the fabrics that I am using.
Sewing the blocks into 5 heart blocks units should ensure the variety and random placement I am looking for.

I have done a bit of fussy cutting, for example the selvage edge in this heart.

And the face in the heart above.

There are faces, geometric patterns, florals

and a statement.

This quilt project as become so much more than the simple quilt kit and pattern it
started out as ....

This quilt is a keeper. A marker of time.
A record of a world wide pandemic, social injustice, and unrest.
And a reminder that loving one another with all of our hearts is what we need to do.
