Sock Knitting Continues

 Sock Knitting Continues

This pattern comes from one of my favorite knitting websites https://verypink.com/

I love turning the heel and watching the sock come together.

This is my favorite cuff down sock pattern and continues to be my go to pattern.
I love using double pointed needles.

This sock pattern comes together so quickly, probably the reason I love making this particular sock pattern.

💖💖💖

It's one of those patterns that you work up and before you know it you have a beautiful pair of socks!

Sock It To Me!!

 Sock It To Me!!

Sock knitting ... like Red/White quilts, knitting socks has become an addiction. As most of you know, I learned how to knit to specifically learn sock knitting.

In the evenings after all of the outside work, I've been cooling down and relaxing with a bit of sock knitting.

I'm not sure why, but I have difficulty with just sitting and not doing something. Just one of the reasons for learning how to knit socks. I always have a pair of socks in progress and sitting on the side table by my recliner. I would rather pick up my knitting as opposed to doom scrolling on my phone.

I'm still working on perfecting the kitchner stitch required to cast off a cuff down sock. Sometimes it looks good (the yellow toe) and sometimes it doesn't (the blue toe). I promise I did them both exactly the same but somehow ... they definitely do not look the same. Oh well, the imperfection on handmade things.

The yarn is Red Heart brand

March A Blur

 March A Blur

March flew by in a blur ... lots of birthdays to celebrate, a bit of sock knitting, quilting, a little doll making, watercolor painting, and spring cleaning.

Rainy Sock Knitting Weekend

Rainy Sock Knitting Weekend

Our weather has been unpredictable ... I wasn't expecting a rainy weekend but I took advantage of the time the rainy weather provided sock knitting.

It was nice to be able to finish two pairs of socks in one weekend.

I make these cuff down socks for my sister for her birthday. Or at least I have made her these socks for her last two birthdays. These socks are more like house shoes, thick socks to be worn around the house when your toes are chilly.

I have been working on this toe up pair of socks for awhile.
I love this pattern and make it quite a bit.

The self striping yarn is Felicini by Knit Picks

I've already started another pair of toe up socks but I'm going to use a different knitted pattern for the leg of the sock.

Sock Knitting Season

 Sock Knitting Season

Snowy weather and sock knitting go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Cuff down on double pointed needles, the first sock is complete and the second sock has been cast on.

Toe up socks in the round in self striping yarn.

Just beginning the cable motif on the leg of the sock. This is my second pair of socks with the cable. I was intimidated by this pattern because of the cable but cabling is surprisingly easy.

Do You Wanna Build A Snowman

Do You Wanna Build A Snowman

Winter 2025 has started out with extreme cold and snow.

Friday of last week the snow started falling around 11:00 a.m. businesses closed and people headed home.

I had prepared for the storm, so I headed home to relax in my recliner, watch BritBox, and relax while doing a bit of sock knitting.
Adult snow days are AMAZING!

A snowy landscape is so beautiful. There is just something very peaceful about it. Especially, when I'm home safe and sound and don't have to get out on the roads.

Where I am we only got about an inch of snow, other areas locally got up to three inches of snow.

First Knitting Project of 2025

First Knitting Project of 2025

I've had a slow start in my knitting lately, I've been quilting and crocheting but not a lot of knitting.

So, I decided to work on a pair of socks.

I feels really good to pick up the sticks again.
Happy Knitting!

Goodbye August

Rounding out the month of August with a bit of knitting.

Progress Report - Sock Knitting

Progress Report

Sock knitting, the last pair of socks needed to reach my 2024 BINGO Challenge.

My 2024 sock knitting goal for 2024 is knitting 5 pairs of socks. Earlier this year I got a head start. I completed several pairs of socks that I already had on my sticks, a couple of the pairs needed very little in order to complete them.

No matter how many pairs of socks that I make I'm always amazed. I still can't believe that I actually learned how to knit in general but specifically that I have learned how to knit socks. An article of clothing ... that fits on your foot. I know that sounds silly but every pair of socks that I complete is still so amazing to me.

Turning the heel ... it just never gets old!
I have two patterns, one a cuff down and one a toe up that I pretty much stick to but lately I have been looking at other patterns. There are various different cuffs, heels, and toe variations. I think I am going to try a new sock pattern the next time around.

Sock Knitting FAIL

 Sock Knitting FAIL

I had the bright idea to have six socks (three pairs) of socks in progress at all times. I was going with the scrappy sock yarn for composing these socks. Not only that, I decided to make the socks larger.

Well, I spent all morning last Saturday unraveling all of the socks that I had started. When I got to the part in the pattern where I would be turning the heel my larger size calculations were totally off. My heel short rows were off and therefore not centered. And oddly enough I completely messed up on the SSK stitches. Needless to say it was a Hot Mess!

Now I'm back to making one sock at a time. One pair at a time.
I still think having six socks (three pairs) going at all times is a good idea. I guess I just need to refine my process.

I have also bailed on the scrappy sock yarn socks idea. It still has merit but I think I will find another project to use up my sock yarn scraps.

Sock Knitting

 Sock Knitting

I had the goal in 2023 of knitting 5 pairs of socks in that year. I didn't make my goal. So I carried that goal over to 2024.

I've had 3 different pairs of socks in progress for a very long time.
So, I finally sat down the past few weeks and finished two of those pairs of socks.

My favorite toe up sock pattern, made with scrap yarn.
I love them!

My favorite cuff down sock pattern, made in blue DK yarn.

These socks are a short ankle sock.
I love them!

As I mentioned before, I've had these socks in progress for a while now.
I can't even remember when I started this pair of socks.
This pair of socks has a cable motif ... it could be a while before this pair is completed.
But, I'm feeling good, a nice strong start. 2 of 5 pairs have been completed.

Sock Knitting Goal for 2023

 Sock Knitting Goal for 2023

As you can see, my goal for socking knitting this year has been to knit 5 pairs of socks. Trust me ... this has never really been a problem ... until I made it a GOAL!
Presently, I am failing miserably BUT I still have two more months to get 3 more pairs of socks knitted!

I had to go to Joann's for quilt batting for my hand quilting project Thursday evening and decided to get these 3 skeins of yarn to motivate me.
2 months + 3 skeins of yarn = (hopefully) 3 pairs of socks.

While I was at Joann's I also purchased these white (tone on tone) end of bolt pieces of fabric for my red/white quilting endeavors. End of bolt fabrics are always discounted.
