Slowly But Surely

Slowly but surely

Weekends are so short, especially when they are filled with those things you HAVE TO DO ... such as laundry, grocery shopping, and cleaning.

In the past couple of weeks I have focused on deep cleaning at least one room, closet, drawer, and/or area at a time. I've cleaned out a closet ... Goodwill run and all. I cleaned my bedroom, moving the furniture around and wiping down the baseboards. This weekend I cleaned my living room. I moved the furniture, cleaned the baseboards, vacuumed, dusted, organized and made a plan for a future chair I want to purchase.

I'm very happy with the new furniture layout.
See that couch ... it is a sleeper sofa and boy is it heavy!

This room feels so much larger with the new layout. The plan for a new chair will work much better with the furniture this way. I want to make a little hand-quilting / knitting nook in the corner. (where the ottoman is in this photo ... upper right hand corner)

I've been working on my Modern Maple Leaf quilt ... it has been so relaxing and enjoyable getting back into hand-quilting. I'm looking forward to getting this quilt finished. This one is going to be a soft one due to the hand-quilting.

After rearranging and cleaning my living room, I had all day Sunday to sit and enjoy my new space and I did just that. I made a lot of progress on my hand-quilting project and on my new knitting project. It was a very peaceful day.

My new knitting project!
From knitting socks to knitting sweaters ...
Wish me luck!

Ticking Them Off My List

As you know ... I love lists ...

For years I have acquired quilt patterns that I wanted to make but just never had the time to make very many of them. In the last three years I have finally had the time. So I have been ticking those quilt projects off of my list.

I purchased this quilt pattern as soon as it was available. I love everything about it. It feels really good to get this project in progress.

I've also been working through my stash of fabric so not all of my flag blocks are the same.

I also made a couple of extra blocks that I plan to make pillows with. I have ordered the teal fabric that I need for the sashing and the backing fabric.
Now I'm just waiting for it to arrive in order to finish this one up.

I love that I am able to finally make some of these quilts that I have always wanted to make.

Staycation 2010

 Staycation 2010

And I'm back ... in my sewing room that is ...

I started my week of staycation by casting on a pair of socks.
These socks are for a work friend.

I completed the Sarah Watts - Crescent quilt top!

Then I finished a WIP from my old project list.
This is pattern is a free download on the Moda site.
The pattern is call Love.
The fabrics are Alison Glass

Red/White Quilt Collection Addition

I completed this quilt top from 9 orphan blocks.
9 blocks, a little sashing, and a border or two.
60 x 60 inches

Red/White Quilt Collection Addition
Historic Redwork Quilt
60 x 72 inches
Years ago my son purchased the historical redwork embroidered blocks for me.
As soon as I got them, I trimmed them blocks and set them aside.
I haven't touched them since ... until yesterday!

I have 2 more rows and this quilt top will be completed!

It's been a wonderful week in my sewing room and hanging out here at home with my fur babies.
I love vacation!!!

FRESH START

Fresh Start

Well, it has been tough getting back into my sewing room. I'm not sure what all of the obstacles have been, making it so hard but I have struggled.  I've been reading ... but mostly the one defining obstacle has been ... TOTAL LACK OF MOTIVATION!

I haven't had the motivation to do anything for months now ... ugh ...

In June I decided to put my working quilt projects list away and start fresh ...

So on June 1st I started a brand new project.

I purchased this pattern and panel when they first came out, so with my fresh start I picked this kit out to work on.

I love this bear - this panel is awesome.

As you can see from the block above ... it was a slow start ... and very humbling!
hahahahaha!
