Scraps

Scraps

I spent most of Sunday afternoon organizing my fabric scraps. I keep my fabric scraps from the quilts I make. I make string pieced quilts and I'm always on the look out for scrap quilt patterns. So every now and again I take the time to organize my fabric scraps for easy use.

I poured out a bag of solids fabric scraps and what do I find?
A red/white wonky star quilt block.

Apparently it was cut to small ???

I put this little gem in my box of red/white orphan quilt blocks.
Not only do I collect fabric scraps ... I keep all of those random orphan blocks.
Test blocks, blocks cut wrong or not the right size, and blocks made for quilt patterns I no longer want to finish.
Some become pillows and some become parts of other improv quilt tops I decide to make.

Stars and Stripes

Stars and Stripes

Thimble Blossoms pattern Stars and Stripes

I love this pattern. I've made a baby quilt size and now a full size bed size. I love this pattern, I love how it sews up. The pattern is easy to read and you can add your own color way options to change it up.

The sashing fabric finally came in last week and I spent Sunday morning finishing this quilt top.
Like I said, this pattern sews up quickly and beautifully.

It didn't take long to get the sashing cut and pieced.

I had a lot of fun making this one.
Stars and Stripes forever!

A No Sew Saturday

 Saturday

A No Sew Saturday

Saturday was a no sew day. I had the pleasure of going with my baby girl to buy her first car.

I love that new car smile!

It was such a fun day and great experience.
Buying a car for the first time can be very intimidating but my girl was a champ.

We drove 3 hours to the dealership and just had a great time.
All the excitement was so sweet.

On the return home we stopped at the best pizza place!
It was a glorious day!

Slowly But Surely

Slowly but surely

Weekends are so short, especially when they are filled with those things you HAVE TO DO ... such as laundry, grocery shopping, and cleaning.

In the past couple of weeks I have focused on deep cleaning at least one room, closet, drawer, and/or area at a time. I've cleaned out a closet ... Goodwill run and all. I cleaned my bedroom, moving the furniture around and wiping down the baseboards. This weekend I cleaned my living room. I moved the furniture, cleaned the baseboards, vacuumed, dusted, organized and made a plan for a future chair I want to purchase.

I'm very happy with the new furniture layout.
See that couch ... it is a sleeper sofa and boy is it heavy!

This room feels so much larger with the new layout. The plan for a new chair will work much better with the furniture this way. I want to make a little hand-quilting / knitting nook in the corner. (where the ottoman is in this photo ... upper right hand corner)

I've been working on my Modern Maple Leaf quilt ... it has been so relaxing and enjoyable getting back into hand-quilting. I'm looking forward to getting this quilt finished. This one is going to be a soft one due to the hand-quilting.

After rearranging and cleaning my living room, I had all day Sunday to sit and enjoy my new space and I did just that. I made a lot of progress on my hand-quilting project and on my new knitting project. It was a very peaceful day.

My new knitting project!
From knitting socks to knitting sweaters ...
Wish me luck!

Ticking Them Off My List

As you know ... I love lists ...

For years I have acquired quilt patterns that I wanted to make but just never had the time to make very many of them. In the last three years I have finally had the time. So I have been ticking those quilt projects off of my list.

I purchased this quilt pattern as soon as it was available. I love everything about it. It feels really good to get this project in progress.

I've also been working through my stash of fabric so not all of my flag blocks are the same.

I also made a couple of extra blocks that I plan to make pillows with. I have ordered the teal fabric that I need for the sashing and the backing fabric.
Now I'm just waiting for it to arrive in order to finish this one up.

I love that I am able to finally make some of these quilts that I have always wanted to make.

FRESH START

Fresh Start

Well, it has been tough getting back into my sewing room. I'm not sure what all of the obstacles have been, making it so hard but I have struggled.  I've been reading ... but mostly the one defining obstacle has been ... TOTAL LACK OF MOTIVATION!

I haven't had the motivation to do anything for months now ... ugh ...

In June I decided to put my working quilt projects list away and start fresh ...

So on June 1st I started a brand new project.

I purchased this pattern and panel when they first came out, so with my fresh start I picked this kit out to work on.

I love this bear - this panel is awesome.

As you can see from the block above ... it was a slow start ... and very humbling!
hahahahaha!

Making Progress

Making Progress ...
It's been a struggle getting back into my sewing room but worth it.

My Red/White Quilt Collections continues to grow. I'm still obsessed with these quilts and the idea of using just read and white fabrics. You will be seeing more red/white quilts made by me here in the coming months. I have more than a few in progress.

I put the binding on these two red/white quilts over the weekend. Both of these quilts have been quilting and trimmed ready for binding for several months now. Saturday I made it happen.

HEARTS
My scrappy HEARTS quilt is still in progress. After a morning of binding and spent the afternoon organizing this quilt project.

I have 205 HEARTS completed ... 195 HEARTS left to make!

I'm Back ...

I'm Back!

Yesterday I spent the afternoon in my sewing room. Binge watching the Irregulars on Netflix and putting the binding on a couple of quilts. First up is a quilt that I made for my new great nephew who is due to arrive tomorrow. I love the fox fabric that I used for the backing of this quilt. Along with a couple of fox books this quilt is now ready to gift. Then I completed the binding on my Tribute Star Red/White quilt. I love this pattern my Denyse Schmidt at www.dsquits.com

Red/White Tribute Star

I love my backing fabric choice for this quilt.

And, I didn't forget the label this time.

Ready to be gifted to a sweet new family member.

These foxes !!!!
💞💞💞

It felt really good to be back in my sewing room and sitting at my sewing machine again.
It felt right and I have missed it more than I realized. It feels really good to be back at it.
Sewing is my happy place!

Sewing Room Goals

Each year I take a moment and set a few goals for myself.

You would think that during a pandemic and being home I would have completed most all of the items on my 2021 Goals list ... as it turns out I have not been in my sewing room in months. For whatever reason I don't seem to have the motivation to sew. I completed Shelby's Easter Basket and a couple of pairs of socks that I have been knitting on for over a year, so there is that. I also just completed my 2nd COVID-19 vaccine, which got me thinking about my sewing room, my goals, and getting motivated! It's time to get back into my sewing room and enjoy the peace it gives me.

With that said, I decided to check out my 2021 Goals list ... it looks a bit daunting but totally doable!

😉😉😉

Things I want to MAKE

  1. Duster vest with a vintage quilt purchased second hand
  2. A coat with a vintage quilt purchased second hand
  3. My own summer dresses work clothing   :)
  4. FEATHERS - Anna Maria Horner pattern, I would like to make this quilt again. Actually two more times. I would like to make a Red/White version and the version with the Sarah Watts fat quarter bundle that I have. I want to use Essex Linen for the background fabrics on both of these quilts.
  5. HAZEL HEDGEHOG - Elizabeth Hartman pattern, I would like to make this quilt again, as well, using the fat quarter bundle I purchased from Pat Pike. Also, using Essex Lien for the background fabric. Either the Malibu blue or the muted green color.

Entering the second year of the COVID-19 Pandemic totally has me totally in a FUNK!

I'm ready to get the vaccine and get back to living!

Enjoying the company of others!

I've been away from social media for a bit now but now it is time to get back to recording my creative activities.
