Binding

 Binding

I have a pile of quilts that I need to put binding on. Binding a quilt is my least favorite part of the quilting process but I love when it is completed and I have a finished quilt.

All of these quilt projects are quilt tops that have been completed for at least two years. One of my goals this year is to get all of my finished quilt tops quilted and bound.

Sewing My Stash # 20 - Tula Pink Panda

60 x 70 inches

Moda LOVE Charm Pack x4

75 x 75 inches

I love the machine quilting on this one and the backing is just perfect.

Sewing My Stash #15 - Easy Patchwork QAL

72 x 72 inches
I love scrap quilts and scrappy patchwork quilts are AWESOME!
And, the backing of bearded dudes makes me smile and think of my first son and child who has an awesome beard.
💙💙💙

Sewing My Stash #18 - Batiks
70 x 85 inches

This quilt is made up of all of the batiks fabric that I had on hand. When I first started quilting I absolutely loved Batiks. Batiks are still beautiful fabrics but I'm not as interested in those fabrics these days.
All the same this scrap quilt turned out nicely.

2024 Purge Continues

 2024 Purge Continues

Since ordering a dumpster, cleaning out a storage unit, and purging my home of 6 years worth of JUNK I am dedicated to continue the purge and and keep my home junk free.

I have felt like a hoarder, especially after seeing all of the things that I had in the storage unit.
Storage units are the devil ... if you have to put something in storage ... then you don't need the item. At that point throw it away or donate it to someone or to an organization.
DO NOT PAY TO STORE IT IN A STORAGE UNIT!
It is absolutely a waste of money.

With the purge I feel so much better mentally and physically without the weight of all of the junk and trash.

It felt great to get things organized and only keeping the items that I know that I will use.

Emptying the boxes and sorting out all of the junk, the items to donate, and the items to keep was very therapeutic. It really help me to feel good about releasing the things that were weighing me down and depressing the heck out of me.
It was a great exercise that I really needed to complete.

Just this week I took 4 boxes from a sewing room culling to a friend at work.
Part of the reason my quilting mojo has been so low is because of the huge mess my sewing room has been for the last couple of years. I feels great to begin sort, purging, and organizing my home and my sewing room.

New Bed

 New Bed

For Mother's Day this year my son and his beautiful bride got me a new bed and I LOVE IT!

It is a Casper bed and I am impressed with the quality.

My daughter has plans for her guest bedroom/office, so she gave me her queen size bed and bed frame.

The sheets also came from my son and his beautiful bride.

I could not be happier.

I love my new bed.

Quilting Mojo

 Quilting Mojo

I enjoy quilting making so much but lately my quilting mojo has been elusive at best.

In May I started a quilt project that sparked my quilting mojo back to life.

The Bubblegum Sonnet

The pattern is by Amanda of Westwood Acres Fabrics

I've always said that pink is my least favorite color but as it turns out I think pink is one of my favorite colors. I don't know why but I seem to be drawn to the color.

Pretty in pink 💖💖💖

This pattern is written wonderfully

There is enough technical difficulty to make this quilt project interesting and rewarding.

I'm not quiet finished with the piecing of this quilt top but I am enjoying the process so much.

It's coming together all of the parts and pieces are completed now it is time to piece those parts and pieces into a finished quilt top.

Salsa Garden 2024

 Salsa Garden 2024

In November of last year my good friend, Alvin, gave me a raised bed garden knowing that I really would like to be a gardener.

In May my brother got me several bags of dirt to fill up my garden and shortly there after I planted a salsa garden.

Tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, rosemary, basil, and sunflowers.

At this point I realize that I am not much of a gardener. I don't think I have the patience for it. But we will see ...

Family - Daddy - Clyde Edward Gibson - The Fisherman

Family

Daddy, Clyde Edward Gibson, the fisherman

Daddy loved to fish.  So did Grandpa Doc.  Mom would fuss, saying Daddy would sleep all day unless he was going fishing or hunting and then he'd be up at 4 am!  Even after he broke his back, he and Grandpa would go fishing-Grandpa would lift Daddy into the boat from his wheelchair.  Daddy met another paralyzed vet at the VA hospital and he had a specially rigged boat they would fish from.  Daddy wasn't much for limits -if there was something he wanted to do, he figured out a way.  I see that trait in some of you and it's wonderful!  Go for it!!!

That last picture was taken in Columbus after Daddy and Uncle Jimmy had been fishing.  He was sitting in his wheelchair.

I have a confession to make.  I've been putting off sharing with you about my dad because it's hard for me to decide where to start.  You all know he died when we were young but there is so much I want to share.  So today I'm going to start by sharing some of his art.  Lori inherited this talent.  These are the few pieces we have.  Obviously, they are treasures.  Enjoy!

The painting about is displayed in my (Lori) home. It is one of my favorite treasures.

Family - Aunt Carrie Duncan

 Family

Aunt Carrie

Contributor: Cindy W., my sister and our family historian

This is Grandma Dorothy's paternal aunt, Carrie Duncan.  This is probably one of the last pictures taken of her, around Stearnes, Kentucky around 1920.  I'll let Grandma tell you the rest of the story....

I remember when I was little being at Grandma Duncan's house and I had the measles while I was at her house. While I was in bed with the measles, my Aunt Carrie got drowned in swimming.

She was going in swimming with her boyfriend in the Big South Fork River and he was trying to save her and they were both drowned. And I never will forget; back then they didn't have any funeral homes. The dead was brought back home and laid out. Grandma's house had what they called the parlor and in the parlor was where Aunt Carrie was laid out. They called it laid out - they were in their casket and they put them in the parlor, in a room to themselves, until they were buried and had the funeral. I remember I was sick with the measles and Grandma didn't want me to get out of bed but I slipped out of bed and slipped in there in that parlor and looked at my Aunt Carrie. I never will forget.

Family - My Brother

 Family

Thomas Patrick (Packy)

Contributor: My sister Cindy and our family historian

Thomas Patrick Gibson.  Born in Dayton, Ohio in 1961. Little brother to me (Cindy) and older brother to Lori.  Married to Angie and Dad to Alex and Brandon.

You probably know his nickname was Packy.  He has always loved sports.  He inherited Grandma Dorothy’s green thumb.

He joined the Air Force after high school, served 4 years - mostly in Ohio - and then joined the Tennessee Air National Guard.  Thank you for your service!

He retired just a few years ago and has since had a very successful second career as an aide to Congressman Burchett.

The tractor picture was taken at Journey’s End, Grandma and Grandpa’s farm way out in the Catoosa Wildlife Reserve.  That’s Grandpa and Steve on the tractor with him.

Tractors, farms, boats, fishing, military service, baseball, family, faith - Pat is a Gibson through and through, all the best things rolled into one.  Love you, Pat!!!
