Sewing My Stash Scrap Quilt #18 Batiks

Sewing My Stash Scrap Quilt #18

BATIKS

When I first started quilting I loved Batik fabrics. I love everything about them. And, even though they are still very beautiful fabrics ... I'm just not into them very much these days.
So, I was looking through all of the bags in the bottom of my closet in my sewing room and I found this bag of batiks. The pieced medallion block you see in the picture was in the bottom of the bag.
I'm going to finish whatever this is that I started ... heaven only knows when ... and I'm calling it,

Red / White Mugs Quilt

Red/White Mugs Quilt

I started this quilt as part of a quilt a long over a year ago. I totally lost steam on this quilt. I didn't enjoy making the mug blocks.  The blocks were tedious to cut out and to piece and I just didn't enjoy the process. I made 31 of the 56 blocks needed for this quilt and put the whole thing in a bag at the bottom of my closet!

😑😑😑

Now what to do with this mess of mugs!

It's time to get out my graph paper and figure out a ways to piece this mess of mugs into some kind of quilt top. Wish me luck!

The Greatest Birthday Gift

The Greatest Birthday Gift

A dear kind family friend tracked me down to give me a painting done by my father, who passed away when I was 5 years old. This dear kind friend - well, our parents were close friends when we were younger.

This morning I cleaned it up and hung the painting in my home.
I have a painting of my mom's childhood home and now I have this painting by my father.

I feel so very blessed and thankful to have both of these family treasures that will always remind me of both of my parents.

Having these paintings hung in my home make me and my home feel full and more complete.
That may be sappy but it is how I feel.

Mornings

This is pretty much how all of my mornings look. Kitty and computer time. We are all piled up in my bed enjoying the quiet that only mornings provide. I love mornings and if I'm honest, I've always been a morning person. Even in my youth. Mornings bring that peace ... for the briefest of moments of everything in the world being right. When my children were little ... I cherished these quiet moments with all of my babies warm and safe in their beds.

It's safe to say mornings are my favorite time of day.

I've had the most wonderful birthday this year. Wednesday I turned 58 years old. I had dinner with a quilty friend after work. Last night I had dinner with my all of my local family and enjoyed chatting about when I was a little girl. It's been such a nice birthday! I am truly blessed.

As of 5:00 p.m. today I will officially be on vacation for a few days!
Yahooooo!

Fitness

 Fitness Goals

So this is happening ...

I have serious fitness goals for 2022 AND BEYOND!
I have real issues with food and dieting. So it occurred to me that it might be really helpful if I could use a very visual system for measuring and thinking about and considering healthy food choices (and amounts). I've never really considered food in terms of healthy portion control. It has always been  ... this is bad for you, to much fat, I shouldn't eat this or that ... you know all of the hype!
I have also purchased a jump rope and have decided to work up slowly and build on a daily exercise routine. As a quilter, my hobby and lifeline is very sedimentary, so it is important for me to build a doable and consistent exercise routine.

Now ... it would be awesome if I could find an accountability partner! hahaha!!

Happy 58th Birthday to me!!!
I cannot believe that I'm 58 years old ...

FYI ... I'm still 30 in my head!

😝😝😝
Hahahahahahaha!!!

HEARTS ...

Put a little love in your heart ...

Like I said, I started this quilt back on March 6, 2020, on March 25, 2020 things shut down due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. I worked on these blocks everyday for almost a year and now it is a completed quilt top. The Pandemic continues with new variants appearing almost daily it seems. This quilt and my sewing room have kept me sane through Covid-19.

I spent the weekend finishing this quilt top ... we had a lot of storms on Saturday morning and my electricity went out for an hours or so. Once the electric came back on I was able to finish piecing this quilt top and a 16 x 16 inch pillow top. I love these little hearts!

Lots of fussy cutting ... but I enjoyed the process so much. This quilt is a keeper!
Lots of sewing room memories in this quilt. Lots of hearts from fabrics used to make other quilt projects.
225, 5 1/2 inch blocks
75 x 75 inches

HEARTS

 HEARTS

I feel like I have been working on this quilt forever! It's been at least a year in the making ... at least a year ... maybe more! ***I started this quilt on March 6, 2020

I've been making blocks here and there and putting them in a red tin box. I lost count somewhere around 170 - 5.5 inch blocks.

HEARTS
75 x 75 inches
225 - 5.5 inch blocks

This quilt is a keeper. A marker of time.
A record of a world wide pandemic, social injustice, and unrest.
And a reminder that loving one another with all of our hearts is what we need to do.

A Fine Patch of Pumpkins

A Fine Patch of Pretty Little Pumpkins

Pumpkins
66 x 80 inches
Pattern is, Pumpkins by Allison of Cluck Cluck Sew

I added two additional 2.5 inch borders that the pattern did not call for and I'm really happy with the results. I started this quilt top back in October and about half way through I stalled - the blocks and the layout were sort of tedious. I even completed another quilt top from start to finish while these blocks hung on my design wall. I'm happy to have this quilt top finished and I'm happy with how it turned out.

I don't usually make holiday themed quilts ... except for Halloween themed quilts ... I love Halloween theme quilts and fabrics. Even though this is a fall themed quilt I love how it turned out.

Quilt Tops Out For Quilting

Quilt Tops Out for Quilting

I am blessed with an amazing and talented long-arm machine quilter. Presently, I have 4 quilt tops out for quilting (at her house ... on her machine) and 5 more quilt tops ready to drop off when I pick the others up. It is so exciting sending quilt tops out for quilting ... and even more exciting picking them up from quilting.

Like I said, I'm very blessed - Sharon (my amazing and talented machine quilter) often sends me progress photos of my quilts being quilted.

My Cactus quilt ... 💖💖💖

My Fancy Fox quilt ... 💖💖💖

OMG!!!! I am so excited, I love getting progress photos!
I know that I am going to love the quilting ... I always do ... and I'm looking forward to seeing these quilts in person when I pick them up. I've had a very productive quilting year thus far.
My sewing room has become my sanctuary and a place that has truly helped me to heal, to grow, and with this pandemic ... to feel safe.

More Pumpkin Patch Progress

 More Pumpkin Patch Progress

I've had a cold for what seems like weeks now ... really just a few days but it sure has made my sewing progress slow and sluggish. Even with this cold I have managed to make a little more progress on my Pumpkin Patch quilt.

Some how my measurements were off a bit on rows 4 and 5, once I adjusted a couple of the sashing units every thing evened out. I still have no idea what I did???? But short of measuring each block and checking the block placement AGAIN ... I decided to just adjust a couple of the sashing units.

Five cute little rows  of five cute little pumpkins.

All of the fabrics in this quilt are scraps or random fat quarters. I had no idea that I had some many different orange fabrics. This quilt has been a wonderful use for all of those orange fabrics.

Fall 2021

At the new year it is my plan to use this blog as my social platform. Although I enjoy Instagram and Facebook both have become laborious to me. So between the 3 social platforms I have decided that I enjoy this blog the most. This space is more of a journal of my creative and personal activities. Which I really enjoy.
