Family - All Because Two People Fell In Love

All Because Two People Fell In Love

Contributor: Cindy W., my sister and our family historian

It's love story time!  Mom told this story just this week!

Mom and her sisters weren't allowed to date soldiers.   Hard and fast rule growing up in Columbus with Ft. Benning just down the road.  So when Ed Gibson, a soldier, called her out of the blue, it was a problem.

Daddy had seen her picture from a friend and had asked about her and had gotten her phone number.  He called, they talked, she told him the no soldier rule.   He didn't give up, continued to call, they continued to talk and eventually he got her address and came knocking on the door unannounced.

He charmed everyone and they were allowed to start dating.  And on June 7, 1958, they got married.  And that's how most of you came to be.

The wedding was at Rose Hill Baptist Church.  The reception was held at home in Columbus.  This is the house Mom grew up in and where we visited as children.
